Winners Revealed in ?Best Irish Bar in the USA’ Contest

Croagh Patrick’s Irish Pub located in Ohio has been crowned as the ‘Best Irish Bar in the USA’ in the nationwide competition run by Irishbeerfinder.com and Strangford Lough Brewing Company (SLBC). A phenomenal 11,000 bar reviews were submitted throughout the four weeks of the nationwide search to find and crown the ‘Best Irish Bar in the USA.’ The competition lines opened on Monday 4th October and only a week into the contest, due to an overwhelming response, the closing date was extended by a week to Sunday 31st October.

“The search to name the ‘Best Irish Bar’ in North America was very popular and thousands of Irish bar patrons submitted passionate reviews for the Irish bar which they thought deserved the prestigious title. With over 2,900 Irish bars listed on the site Irishbeerfinder.com was the perfect platform for customers to submit glowing Irish bar reviews and support their bar in the running for the title. The response to the competition was staggering and it emphasises how highly people value their local Irish bar,” commented Emma McCarey, Marketing Executive for Irishbeerfinder.com.

Irish bars across North America rallied their fans to support them in this enthralling competition that went right to the wire. Croagh Patrick’s Pub located in Willoughby, Ohio received over 3,000 bar reviews and received an overall rating of 5 out of 5.  Fans said the bar was “a great place to meet with friends,” had “great food and great beer and great atmosphere!” and is “the best pub in Willoughby”. In second place was O’Neal’s Irish Bar located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who received 2,966 reviews and in third place was Bub’s Irish Pub located in Germantown, Wisconsin who received 1,231 reviews.

Everyone who submitted a bar review during the month long contest was entered into a prize draw for the chance to win 2 return flights to Las Vegas from anywhere in North America. The lucky winning reviewer was Kathleen Kelly from Florida who was thrilled to have been randomly selected out of the 11,000 entries in the competition.

The Irish bars in each US state with the highest number of ratings were also rewarded by industry duo SLBC and Irish Beer Finder and the winning bars in each state can be viewed on www.irishbeerfinder.com.

Grace Lavery, Marketing Manager for SLBC said, “Irishbeerfinder.com and SLBC are delighted with the response to the competition and we are excited to be able to announce Croagh Patrick’s Pub as the best in the USA.  Although it is sad to see the 2010 ‘Best Irish Bar’ contest finish we hope to make the competition an annual event so keep an eye out for the 2011 competition.”

Irishbeerfinder.com is sponsored by Strangford Lough Brewing Company, Ireland, who launched two of their traditional Irish ales into North America earlier this year. To find out more about St Patrick’s Best Ale and Legbiter Ale or to find a local retailer visit www.slbc.ie.

Finding the Best Local Bars with WiMax

Article by Justin Walton

A beloved watering hole is not something that’s easy to come by, in this age of high prices and quick gentrification. But fortunately, there are easier ways than ever out there to figure out exactly where to go for happy hour. Whether it’s discovering a new spot to replace a beloved old dive or figuring out the best possible locale for an important casual business meeting or a fabulous first date, the culture is all about discovering brand new venues these days. That’s exactly why websites like Foursquare have taken off so much; it’s a much better way to figure out where to go, where is cool, and what people are loving so much about a new venue in the first place. And from daytime spots with wireless internet to exclusive speakeasies, there really is everything out there these days.

Finding one’s best local bars is even easier with WiMax, which can be opened at a moment’s notice and be used to peruse the various options out there on the world wide web. For starters, there is always the world of Yelp, which has definitely picked up steam, given its world of first-person reviews that are allegedly scribed by locals. The fact is that sometimes the content on Yelp is less than partial, considering the scandals the site has had in the past with being easy to buy off. But the fact of the matter is that regardless of their dubious business practices, the people who are still using the site to actually make legitimate recommendations do a great job, and it can be a fun way to find out the real deal on a spot one wants to try, as well as a fine resource for new openings.

While some towns might have fantastic online newspapers and others might be a bit behind the times, if there is a listings for local spots around the city that is online, it can also be a nice place to go. Sitting in a cafe and reading the newspaper has been replaced by doing the same thing only using wireless internet, so it only makes sense to hold onto a part of the past and be checking out a local rag’s take on where the best spots are to grab french fries, play pool, and have a nice pint, too.

For the hotter spots in bigger cities, sometimes looking at more cosmopolitan source material is a must. And for those who are in New York and Los Angeles, this might mean checking out the hottest web dailies, spots that focus on reviewing whatever tends to be opening more recently. In New York, that source might be the Gothamist, Time Out New York, or even the New York Times website. For those in LA, checking out the local version of Time Out, the LA Times, or other various sources is key. And for foodies who want a spot where great cocktails are also being imbibed, CHOW is always a reliable online spot. The best part is, those who feel compelled to do some in-house reviewing can pick a venue with wireless internet and have at it.
