Bars, Bars and More Bars!
What better remedy for a cold winter’s night than a sultry evening of cocktails, wine, tapas and cheese and watching the gusty winds blow outside? Luckily Sydney is blest with abundant bars, and with the introduction of more relaxed liquor licensing laws finally coming into play, we’re seeing those options get even better. Here’s a look at some sexy new bars opening across town this month…
SumBar
Local, intimate and did we say local? We’re going to be seeing a lot more of these ‘just round the corner’ venues in times to come. First off the mark is Sumbar on Frenchmans Road in Randwick. A two-storied terrace style venue, Sumbar is set in the middle of a residential oasis, giving Joe from across the road and Jill from next door a place to unwind after work or relax on weekends. With sprawling lounges and low coffee tables creating a super club meets bordello feel, the trouble will be getting residents to go home when it’s time to close. 50 Frenchmans Road, Randwick, 02 9399 6669
MilleVini
Since its opening just 6 weeks ago, MilleVini has quickly become Surry Hills’ most popular wine bar, and with good reason. Decked out in sleek black décor and a mezzanine to boot, this intimate space is the ultimate in inner city cool. And let’s not forget the antipasto… 397 Crown Street, Surry Hills, 02 9357 3366
Time to Vino
We agree; it’s always time for wine. And with this new East Sydney venture, headed up by family duo sommelier Clint Hillery and his brother, there’s even more reason. Finally, here’s a place without pretension, but with a wine list to match the snootiest of venues. In fact, the wine list is ever evolving. So if a low-key yet sophisticated venue is up your alley, then head down the street (Stanley’s that is) to Time to Vino. 66 Stanley Street, Darlinghurst, 02 9380 4252
Ash Street Cellar
The newest addition to the Ivy complex, this beautiful bistro and wine bar boasts a 270 strong wine list and a matching selection of Mediterranean-inspired tasting plates. And as something rarely seen in Sydney, wines by the glass come in three different sizes, so you can drink as little, or as much, as you like. For all you wine lovers, cheers to that! Ivy, 320 George Street, Sydney, 02 9240 3000
